Thursday, 8 August 2024, John Herbert Abel, 89 years, passed away peacefully in the comfort of Kathy Hospice with his loving family gathered around him.
John was born in the Town of Barton to John and Esther (nee Benike) Abel. John was united in marriage to Ruth Crass on 15 August 1953, at Trinity Lutheran Church in West Bend.
John was employed by the City of West Bend as street Superintendent. While in West Bend he also served as a volunteer fireman. Upon retirement John and Ruth moved to Eagle River. John was a Lifetime Member of the West Bend Moose Lodge. He was a member of the Bass Lake Owners Association and the Kalmar Senior Center in Eagle River.
John and Ruth has three sons, John R. (Jane) Abel, Bruce Abel, and Scott (Lisa) Abel; loved his ten grandchildren, Jodi (Shawn) Appel, Jackie (Scott) Martin, Jenny (Steve) Fribley, Carey DeWitt, Jodi (Joe) Falconer, Marie Jaycox, Steven Abel, David (Melanie) Abel, Jeremiah Abel, and Hannah Abel; thirteen great-grandchildren, Ashley (Mark), Autumn, Ty, Maisy, Nolan, Logan, Deacon, Vayda, Jillian, Mark, Sophia, Autumn, Matthew, Jackson; three great-great-grandchildren, Luella, Delaney, and Skylar.
John is survived by his brother Milton Abel; his sister-in-law, Nancy Boettcher; and brother-in-law, Douglas (Nancie) Crass.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his three siblings, Lucille (Arland) Seyfert, Shirley (Robert) Reuter, and Ray (Jeanette) Abel; and his siblings-in-law, Jacob Reiland, Kenneth Boettcher, Lucille Abel, and Loraine Abel.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers that helped John over the years.
VISITATION: The family will greet relatives and friends at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral & Cremation Service (1315 W. Washington Street, West Bend, WI – 53095) Sunday 18 August 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m.
SERVICE: A memorial service for John will be held following the visitation at the funeral home at 3:00 p.m., with Pastor David Schoob officiating the service.
