James H. “Bucky” Backhaus, age 72 years of Random Lake passed away early Tuesday morning 20 December 2011 at his residence.


James was born on 10 July 1939 in the Town of Scott, a son of the late Theodor and Lucinda Hinn Backhaus. He attended Random Lake Grade School and graduated from Random Lake High School in 1957. On 6 June 1959 he married Shirley Chesak at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Batavia. The couple has resided in Batavia and since 1995 in Random Lake. He was self-employed as Batavia Welding & Repairs and B&B Enterprises.
James was a member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Batavia and served on the Beechwood Cemetery Committee for many years. He enjoyed fishing, cards, woodworking and talking to anyone visiting.


Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Shirley of Random Lake; Four Children: Kathleen (Daniel) Teunissen of Oostburg, Janice (James) Teunissen of Cedar Grove, James “Sport” (Lynn) Backhaus of Cascade and Susan (William) Taylor of Boltonville; Seven Grandchildren; Five Step Grandchildren; One Great Granddaughter; Seven Step Great Grandchildren; One Sister In Law: Carol Schneider (special friend: Gerald Laux) of Harshaw, WI and One Brother In Law: George (Carol) Chesak of Arizona. He is also survived by other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by one grandson.


Funeral Services will be held on Friday Evening (23rd December) at 7:00 P.M. at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth. Rev. Kurt Ziemann, Pastor of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Beechwood Cemetery. Friends may call at Suchon Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 P.M. until the time of services. James is listed in the 4th edition of the Friedrich Seidemann Family Tree Book on page 141 with his wife, their children, and their grandchildren.
