Gerner, Carol Ruth (Yahr), 94 years, passed away on Sunday 8 March 2020 in West Bend.  

Carol was born on 2 December 1925 in West Bend, the second of four children born to Leonard and Ruth Yahr. Carol graduated from West Bend High School in 1943. She graduated from the Columbia Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1947.  

On 21 June 1947, Carol married her high school classmate John Gerner, after he returned from World War II. Her primary focus, along with her husband, John, became raising their family of five children. Carol enjoyed gardening and took great pride in her flower and vegetable gardens. She was a lifelong member of St. John¹s Lutheran Church; from baptism, confirmation, and was active in the Women¹s Guild, leading the efforts of the well-known cookbook “Our Favorite Recipes” and the annual Apple Kuchen sale.

Carol enjoyed winter ski trips in Colorado, spring trips to Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., summer vacations in northern Wisconsin, tennis with friends, and was an avid bridge player.  Carol and John enjoyed domestic and foreign travel as well as socializing with their many friends throughout their 64 years of marriage. John passed away in October of 2011.
Carol will long be remembered by her family as the world¹s best mother. Carol¹s loving, caring and nurturing ways, her willingness to give of herself to others, her hard work and can-do attitude, were a remarkable role model for everyone she interacted with.

Carol¹s surviving family includes five children, John (Karen) Gerner, Douglas (Diane) Gerner, Michael (Claudia) Gerner, Jean (Dan) Daley, and Terry (Elizabeth) Gerner; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Tom (Lori) Yahr; three sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Yahr, Audrey Yahr and Lori Yahr; and many nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Gerner, and two brothers, Fred Yahr and Allen Yahr.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, 18 April 2020, at St. John¹s Lutheran Church, 809 S. Sixth Street, West Bend, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 noon. Lunch will be served in the church basement immediately following the service. Memorials in Carol¹s name to St. John¹s Lutheran Church or School are appreciated by the family.
