Gene Lester Koenig, age 72 years, of West Bend was called home to be with the Lord on 4 August 2021 at Froedtert West Bend Hospital with his wife by his side.
Gene was born on 15 April 1949 in West Bend to Lester and Esther Koenig (Crass). He was united in marriage to Shelby Jean Diels on 1 August 1992 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on German Village Road in West Bend.
Gene was a welder his entire career, and he retired from KSM in Germantown in 2019. In his high school years, he was a drummer with the band The LaVontes, and later played in The Divided Highway. Gene enjoyed fishing and deer hunting.
Those Gene leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife of 29 years, Shelby; three children, Dawn (John) Olson, David “DJ” Koenig, and Shannon (John) Davies; two step-daughters, Sheila (Dale) Bruder and Kimberlee (Tim) Bechler; four grandsons, Aron (Macey) Bechler, Connor (fiancée Nicole) Bechler, Kyle Koenig, and Dylan Koenig; and great-granddaughter, Oaklee June Bechler. He is further survived by three sisters, Sandy (Mike) Arndt, Cheryl (Whitey) Chapman, and Geri Neuy; two brothers, Lester “Butch” (Kathy) Koenig Jr. and Randy (Tammy) Koenig; sister-in-law, Mary Diels, brother-in-law, DuWane “Butch” (Janet) Diels; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Floyd Diels Jr.
At Gene’s request no services will be held.
The family would like to thank to doctors, nurses, and staff at Froedtert West Bend Hospital, and Dr. Colin Mooney and the staff at Kraemer Cancer Center for their care and compassion.
