Morgan, Helen Jane Flanagan

Helen Jane (Gerner) Flanagan Morgan, 87 years, of Peru, Illinois, passed away Friday morning, 14 September 2012 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. 

Mrs. Morgan was born on 19 November 1924 in Stambaugh, Michigan to Charles and Dorothy (Muir) Gerner. She married Raymond Flanagan in 1945 in Michigan. She then married David W. Morgan on 25 May 1957 in Phelps, Wisconsin. 

Mrs. Morgan graduated from Phelps High School in 1943 and was accepted at the Air Force office in Chicago as a secretary and was given business courses. She was later sent to Louisiana to disband an Air Base. Following her trip to Louisiana, Helen returned back to Chicago and was hired as a secretary for Popular Mechanics Magazine (Radio Editor). She worked for Peru Washington School as Principals Secretary for 23 years and she and her husband, David owned and operated the Dugout Tavern in LaSalle for 22 years.

She is survived by two sons, Michael and wife, Judith Flanagan of Fort Pierce, Florida and Dennis Flanagan of Peru; one daughter, Jane and husband, Ron Engle of Abaco, Bahamas; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and one sister, Dorothy Schott of Land O Lake’s, Wisconsin. 

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Raymond in 1954 and later, David in 2002; one daughter, Kathleen Johnson and one brother in infancy. Memorials may be directed to the Illinois Valley PADS.

Family and friends may visit from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, 17 September 2012 at the Mueller Funeral Home in Peru. Cremation will follow visitation. Burial will be private at a later date in Wisconsin. 

Helen is listed in the 4th edition of the Friedrich Seidemann Family Tree Book on page 306 with her parents, husbands, children, grandchildren, and her great grandchild. She is a 5th generation descendant of Friedrich and Rosine Seidemann and her genealogy line is as follows: Friedrich, Johanna, William, Charles Sr, and Helen.
