Gerald Alvin Nord, 72 years,passed away on 31 October 2005, at the Murray County Memorial Hospital in Slayton, MN at the age of 72. Jerry was born on 6 July 1933 near Iona, Minnesota to Alvin and Edith Miller Nord. He grew up near Iona and attended elementary school in Chandler, Minnesota and graduated from Slayton High School. He joined the Pipestone National Guard and was activated to serve in the Korean War. He and Claris Goehring were married in Worthington, Minnesota on 23 December 23 1952. Following their marriage, Jerry continued to serve in the U. S. Army at Ft. Riley, Kansas. In September 1952, they moved to Leavenworth, Kansas and was stationed there until 1962 when they moved to Butzbach, Germany, then Fort Hood, Texas, then Fort Bliss, Texas, and in Vietnam until 1968, when he returned to Slayton. He taught ROTC in Brookings, South Dakota at South Dakota State University until March 1971. Jerry began operating Nord Insurance Agency which he ran until his retirement in the late 1990’s He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as trustee, elder and treasurer. He belonged to the Murray County Lodge. Fishing, woodcarving, gardening, reading, watching Minnesota Twins baseball and Vikings football, and spending time with his family were his favorite pastimes.

Survivors include his wife Claris Nord, Slayton, MN; two sons, two daughters and their spouses: Malcolm and Eloyce Nord, Marietta, GA; Brenda Sovell, Marshall, MN; Sandy and Ron Gilliland, Pipestone, MN, and Jeff and Peggy Nord, Marlton, NJ; 11 grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Chuck and Betty Nord, Truman, MN, and a sister Loretta Tammen, Slayton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Terry; granddaughter Mandi Gilliland; a sister Evelyn Behrends,

Funeral services First Presbyterian Church in Slayton, MN on Friday, 4 November 2005, at 10:30 a.m. with David Erickson officiating. The pianist was Nola Aanenson. Pallbearers are LeRoy Kalass, Bruce Haken, Branch Haken, Ron Behrends, Denny Sigurdson and Neil Everson. Interment is in Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, MN. Military honors are accorded by the Slayton Legion Post and Slayton VFW.

Gerald is listed in the fourth edition of the Seidemann Family Tree Book on page 408 with his wife, their children, and their grandchildren.
