Kathleen Mary Poppe, age 71 years, of Hayward, passed away Saturday, 10 August 2024.
Kathy was born 12 November 1952, in Hayward, the daughter of George and Margaret (Tainter) Thayer. She grew up in Hayward, attended Hayward High School and graduated in 1971. Kathy then went to nursing school in Ironwood, graduating in 1977. Throughout her extensive nursing career, she also worked as an EMT, along with being a home dialysis health care nurse. She worked at the Hayward Hospital for over 20 years, the LCO Health Center for over 15 years and the Northwoods Clinic for over 5 years. Kathy was united in marriage to Larry Poppe in 1981. While raising their children they decided to open a family catering business that they ran for many years. Kathy had many joys in her life – playing cards, taking a ride, going to lunch then shopping and listening to honkytonk music on Saturday. She adored her cardinals and absolutely loved her family, especially her bestest buddy Cecil Poppe. Kathy and Larry “adopted” many of Tom and Sue’s friends throughout the years and has always treated them like her own. Kathy was a kindhearted woman, loved everyone and wanted to take care of them.
She is survived by her husband Larry; son Tom (Heather) Poppe; daughter Susan Poppe; grandson Cecil Poppe; many nephews, nieces & cousins.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents George & Margaret; brother Roger and Tom Thayer; and sister Margaret Thyssen.
A Memorial Service was held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, 22 August 2024, at Pineview Funeral Service. Visitation was held from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Kathleen is listed in the 4th edition of the Friedrich Seidemann Family Tree Book on page 343 with her husband Lawrence and their children Thomas and Susan.
