Duane Preabt, 81 years, Fargo, ND died on Wednesday, 13 January 2021 at Maple View Memory Care in Fargo.

Duane was born 22 August 1939 in Mandan, ND to Ernest and Garnet (Seidemann) Preabt. He grew up on a farm in the Mohall/Glenburn, ND area. He graduated from high school and started working at Fisher Motors in Minot, ND. Duane served in the ND Air National Guard and National Guard. He married Jeresa Thorensen in 1964. They had two sons and lived in Minot, ND. Duane and boys moved to Williston, ND in 1979 where he worked at Jerry Harmon Motors. He later moved to Grand Forks, ND in 1988 and worked at Rydell Chevrolet. He married Donna Iszler in 1991. After retiring from the auto industry, Duane worked for the ND Peace Officers and Burlington Northern Transport. He moved to West Fargo in 2017 and entered Maple View in 2019. 

He was active member in the Lutheran Church throughout his life. He also was a Lions Club member serving as District Governor and Club President and did service work with the School for the Blind. His highlight each year was the Christmas in the Park in Grand Forks.

In Duane’s younger years he had a passion for softball, horse shoes, camping and bowling. In his later years he enjoyed watching UND Basketball and Hockey, listening to his wife Donna play piano, spending time at the cabin, traveling to see family and spending time with his Grandchildren.  Duane’s hobbies included attending old car shows, collecting trains, dancing and playing pinochle.

He is survived by two sons, Shawn (Iva) of Fargo and Tim (Linda) of Detroit Lakes, MN; four grandchildren, Haylee (Justin) Sirjord, Rylan, Sierra and Molly Preabt; two great grandchildren, Micah and Keaton Sirjord; step daughter, Cheryl (Lynn) Misialek of Grand Forks and grandchildren, Kyle, Kelsey, Kody and Kourtney; brother, John Preabt of Minot; nephew, Melvin Hines and niece, Laura Garnet.

Duane was preceded in death by his wife, Donna, parents and siblings, Janice Hines and Jerry Preabt.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Maple View Memory Care. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the ND School for the Blind or Hospice of the RRV.

Visitation: Monday, 18 January 2021 from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo.

Funeral: Tuesday at 10 AM at Augustana Lutheran Church, Grand Forks, ND with visitation one hour prior.

Burial: Fargo National Cemetery, Harwood, ND.

Duane is listed in the 4th edition of the Friedrich Seidemann Family Tree Book on page 416 with his parents, his wife, their children, and their great grandchildren. He is a 5th generation descendant of Friedrich and Rosina Seidemann and his genealogy line is as follows: Friedrich, Carl, Charles, Garnet, and Duane.
