Marsha Schmitt, age 64, of Menoken, ND died Thursday, 11 October 2012 at her residence in Menoken. Marsha Renee Kratz, the daughter of Vernon and Myrna (Walterson) Kratz, was born 20 June 1948 in Valley City, ND. She grew up on a farm southeast of Valley City. She attended first through eighth grade at King School, rural Valley City. Marsha then attended College High for her freshman and junior years. Due to the closing of College High, Marsha then graduated from Valley City High School.
After her high school graduation, Marsha attended Town and Country Beauty College in Jamestown, ND and worked for a while as a hairstylist. She later began working as a typesetter for newspapers. Marsha worked at the Valley City Times Record, the Forsyth Independent, West Fargo Pioneer and the Fort Morgan Times. Marsha married Dwight Schmitt on 24 May 1979 in Valley City, ND.
After her marriage, she lived in Forsyth, MT, Fargo, ND and Wiggins, CO. In 2008, the family moved to Bismarck, ND to be closer to family. Family and friends have always been very important to Marsha. Her best times ranged from babysitting her grandchildren, visiting with her brothers and sister to hosting family reunions. She enjoyed reading, time on her computer, sewing, woodworking and crafts. Marsha loved making something and then giving it to a family member or a friend.
Marsha is survived by her husband, Dwight, Menoken, ND; children, Todd Archambeau, Bismarck, ND, Dean (Barb) Schmitt, Big Lake, MN, Lori Ann (Gene) Cox, Mobridge, SD and Dawn Schmitt, LaMoure, ND; two brothers, Douglas (Becky) Kratz and Virgil (Tami) Kratz, all Valley City, ND; one sister, Leona (Douglas) McPherson, Valley City, ND; 6 grandchildren, Alexis Archambeau, Sarah Cox, Rebecca Cox, Bryant Schmitt, Breanna Schmitt and DeAnn Schmitt.
Marsha was preceded in death by her parents, and one great-grandson, Kaden Schmitt. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations made to the American Cancer Society or the Home On The Range, 16351 I-04, Sentinel Butte, ND 58654
A memorial service was held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, 17October 2012 at Faith Lutheran Church in Valley City. Visitation was held one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday morning. Inurnment was in Memory Gardens Cemetery near Valley City.
Marsha is listed in the 4th edition of the Friedrich Seidemann Tree Book on page 405 with her ex-husband Louis Archambeau and their children Louis Todd Archambeau and Lori Ann (Archambeau) Cox and their grandchildren.
