Steinert, Judith

Died: 14 November 2025

Judith “Judy” Steinert (nee Darmody), 71 years, was called home to be with the Lord on 14 November 2025 at home surrounded by her family.

Judy was daughter to the late Jerry and Marion (nee Nigh) Darmody. She graduated from Kewaskum High School in 1972. After graduation, Judy married her high school sweetheart, Calvin, and they began their family while Judy worked at companies such as West Bend Mutual and Amity. She eventually dedicated over 35 years working for Washington County in several different positions.  In 1991, Judy started to give back to her community by joining the Fillmore Fire Department as a First Responder.  Throughout her tenure she took on multiple other roles including serving on several committees, acting as treasurer for more than 20 years, and she wrote several grants to which the department was awarded over $250,000 in funding.

Judy was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Her deep faith guided her in all that she did. God was a cornerstone in her life.  Judy showed that she was a child of God by the way she treated others.  Her kindness touched every person fortunate enough to cross her path. Her unwavering generosity enriched the lives of many.

Judy enjoyed God’ s beauty by taking walks, gardening, camping with those she loved, or just sitting with her husband watching the sunset over the beautiful property they created. Judy also enjoyed crafting with friends and family, serving fish fries at the fire department, and going on new adventures with her siblings and their spouses. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family- especially her grandkids. Judy could be found as a spectator at any activity her grandchildren were involved in.

Judy is survived by her husband of 53 years, Calvin; her children Tracey (John Averill), Jeff (Jessi) Steinert, Sara (Jake) Wilson; her cherished grandchildren MacKenzie (Brandon Depies) and Jordan Ebert, Jackson and Isaac Averill, Ellie and Wyatt Steinert, Leo and Theodore Wilson; her siblings Dale (Linda) Darmody, Donna (Jim) Laufer, Gordon “Duke” (Julie) Darmody, Kevin (Carol) Darmody, Lisa (Larry) Polenske, Jill (Mike) Luedtke; her siblings-in-law Carl (Nancy) Steinert, Connie (Wayne) Wetzel, Sue (Craig) Mansmith, Stanley (Tracey) Steinert, Janet (Butchie) Hafemann, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Judy is preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Marion Darmody, her sister Janet, her grandson Noah Wilson, her mother-in-law and father- in-law, Clarence and Edna Steinert, and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carol and Tom Herman.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, 2 December 2025, at St. Michael Parish (8883 Forest View Rd Kewaskum, WI 53040) from 2:00pm until 5:45pm. At 5:45pm there will be a Fillmore Fire Department Walk-Thru followed by a Mass of Christian Burial starting at 6:00pm with Fr. Patrick Magnor presiding.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Fillmore Fire Department or St. Michael’s Church are appreciated.  Judy was known for putting others before herself.  During her cancer journey, she recognized the deep financial obligations associated with cancer treatments.  She strongly urged her children to attend all of the cancer benefits that they could.  She felt no one should have to fight cancer while also carrying the burden of how to afford the treatment.  If you are able, please help us honor Judy by attending benefits and supporting those in need.

Judy’s family would like to thank the Neuro ICU staff, Sam of 5NW Froedtert, Renee and the Staff of Preceptor Health, not only for their care of Judy, but the care of her family. The compassion shown by all was greatly appreciated.

Judy is listed in the 4th edition of the Friedrich Seidemann Family Tree Book on page 279 with her husband Calvin Steinert and their children and grandchildren.
